Mr.Kim: Sure. I am more than happy to answer your questions.

 

 

 

 

 

Stuvisor.com: When we did some research about Hanyang, we found there are 2 campuses- Seoul and Erica. You’re now working in International Affairs office, on Erica campus. What’s the difference between the 2 campuses, Can you briefly introduce Erica's campus as well?

 

Mr.Kim: Both campuses are a comprehensive university that covers many fields of study such as Engineering, Science, Business, Media, etc. However, there are some academic fields that only one campus covers. 

 

 

 

 

For example, the Seoul campus has a College of Medicine, College of Music, Department of Food & Nutrition, Department of International Studies, etc. ERICA campus has a College of Pharmacy, College of Design, College of Applied Music, etc. ERICA Campus was established in 1979 and renamed Hanyang University ERICA back in 2009. ERICA stands for Education, Research, Industry, Cluster at Ansan. As you can guess from the name, its biggest strengths are a strong collaboration with industry and practical education.

Stuvisor.com: For which majors of students would you recommend coming to Hanyang Erica? What are the strongest majors Hangyang Erica has competitiveness?

 

 

 

Mr.Kim: As Hanyang ERICA’s reputation reflects, all our academic fields are very strong. However, I can say, besides the engineering area, the biggest applicants choose Business and Design as their major. Also Computer, Media Communication areas are getting popular for the last 3 years.

Stuvisor.com: Hanyang Erica campus is famous for its specialization in university-industry cooperation. Could you explain about this program? Would it be also promising for international students in terms of job opportunities in Korea after graduation?

 

 

Mr.Kim: Hanyang University ERICA graduates are one of the most attractive applicants for companies in Korea. Since our practical education and strong ties with the industry, our graduates are hired by many major multinational corporates in Korea.

 

 

 

 

 

Hanyang University ERICA implemented a 4+1 co-op program for the first time in Korea. Students can apply to 1,000 of our family companies while studying at Hanyang ERICA and get work experience. All students paid during the program and also transfer credits back to school. We encourage international degree-seeking students to participate in the program during their studies at Hanyang ERICA.

Mr.Kim: There are many high-tech companies around the campus which actively working together with the university and each professor’s research laboratory. Those companies are also eager to hire Hanyang University ERICA students after graduation. Also, Hanyang University ERICA has selected most government projects related to industry cooperation as below to name some. I am sure that it is also related to our strategic place as well as the university’s efforts.

Stuvisor.com: How many international students are currently enrolled? And, From which countries mostly students are coming?

 

 

Mr.Kim: Currently, we have slightly over 700 degree-seeking international students. Besides, we host over 200 exchange students, 400 summer school students, and 500 language students every year. The largest number of students are coming from China followed by Pakistan, Malaysia, etc. In total, there are almost 2,000 international students every year here at Hanyang ERICA.

Mr.Kim: Yes, we have an Institute of International Language on campus which offers Korean Language Program to international students. (http://ericaiie.hanyang.ac.kr/)

Stuvisor.com: Aside from what we mentioned before, what other benefits can International students have while studying in Hanyang Erica? 

 

 

Mr.Kim: Hanyang University ERICA is very well-known for its International Student Service System. Besides International Office’s student services such as ‘Buddy-Program’, monthly field-trip, etc., each college has a very close relationship with international students. There is a college-level orientation for international students so that each student can benefit from more specific information related to his/her major. Also, each college runs a ‘Tutoring Program’. In this program, 3rd or 4th-grade students become a tutor and they teach basic major-related courses to international students who suffer from the different curricula in Korea.

Also, Hanyang University ERICA has a professional counselors for international students and international students can freely make reservations and participate in mental health counseling. It helps students get rid of homesickness or mental illness and adapt to new cultures.
